The Peguta Honeypot

While searching for a way to enable LastPass to fill passwords for SSH sessions (yes - keys are better. I don’t always get to use them, though) I ended up stumbling upon this page.

It goes on and on about how secure they are and how much better they are and even goes on to use some vague buzzwords. So I ended up curious as to who these guys are, having never heard of them (orange flag). I Google’d their name and what I found was… just not really good.

Basically no results outside of their site. Red flag 1.

There appears to be no discernible business model anywhere. It simply lists a bunch of features and all the great things you can do “for free” with nary a mention of an upsell or a premium plan or some kind of enterprise thing. Red flag 2.

Life on Soylent

I have always been curious about how we could do food differently.

So I recently ordered a week’s supply of Soylent. And when I say “recently”, I really should say “in June” - it took a LONG time to arrive.

At first, I didn’t care much for the taste. I figured out that adding honey or 2 bottles of Starbucks Mocha coffee made it pretty fun to drink. Eventually I started drinking it plainly - after a while it’s a lot like drinking very slightly grainy water.

For those of you unaware of what Soylent is, it’s a nutritional drink/meal replacement/light brown, beigy liquid. The idea is to provide all the nutrients you need while being as cheap and easy to prepare as possible - “Food 2.0” - which it actually mostly succeeds at. It comes in a large bag of powder and a tiny bottle of oil, which you mix with water and refrigerate to form the drink.

Hacking My Life: Day Zero

This post is part of a series. If you’re interested in reading the rest of it, click here.

Today I’m going to start a series of posts I’ve decided to call “Hacking My Life”.

I am a systems administrator and I have never really had excellent organizational skills. Over the next month I intend to change that.

A number of things in my life need to change, for various reasons. I need to get better and more regular sleep, sort out my work schedule, look after my life better in general and most importanly - be productive. This month I am issuing myself a challenge: do more in one month than you have done in the last year. This applies to both work and my own personal projects.
